Family Safari

March 3-5, more than a month ago now, was a weekend filled with lots of animals and fun fellowship with our teammates, the Friesen family here in Kara, and the Tabligbo team from southern Togo. We awoke on the morning of the 4th to find that a pack of lions had taken down a cape buffalo in a kill the night before only a 5 minute drive from the hotel! We spent hours off and on during that day observing the lions chasing off vultures and even the original herd of buffalo returning twice to face off with the lions. It was an adventure we'll never forget and Hannah and Elijah were old enough to enjoy the experience while I did my best to keep Gabriel and Caleb entertained. Here is a list of the animals the children helped me count that we saw over our 3 day trip:

Cape Buffalo: 24
Rhone Antelope: 11
Cob Antelope: 105
Wart Hog: 23
Elephant: 2
Lion: 4
Duiker: 1
Hippopotamus: 9
Baboon: 42
Bushbuck: 3
Patus Monkey: 33
Crocodile: 2
Birds (specified with the help of Daddy):
-Stellar Starling: 2
-Maribou Stork: 2
-Vulture: 33
-Crested Crane: 27
-Roller: 1
-Eagle: 1
-Battleur: 1
-Saddleback Stork: 1
-Hammercop: 1
Oh Lord, your creativity and beauty amaze us!!

This would be a cool photo to see. I should send you guys the movie "Ghost and the Darkness." Ask Dave if he has seen it. It would be a fitting film after reading this post.

Tell Hannah Congrats. on being 8.

I can just hear the stories your children will have to tell the next time they are in the States. How blessed they are to be able to experience such cool things!!
